Americast vs Acrylic

I guess you are gonna install a new bathtub and here you are about: Americast vs Acrylic?

Well, Americast is a clear winner here. Later part of this article you will know every single detail about these two.

Let’s explore the blend of durability and style that suits your new bathtub upgrade perfectly.

What is Americast?

Americast is an innovative material used in American Standard bathtubs. It is a proprietary blend of porcelain enamel, enameling grade steel, and a molded reinforcement composite backing. This three-layered construction offers exceptional durability, heat retention, and sound absorption, making it an excellent choice for bathroom upgrades.

I personally love Americast bathtubs because they are incredibly scratch-resistant and easy to clean. The porcelain enamel surface is also very smooth and luxurious, making it a pleasure to soak in. Additionally, Americast bathtubs are very quiet, which is a major plus if you have a small bathroom.

In my opinion, Americast bathtubs are worth the investment if you are looking for a high-quality, durable, and stylish bathtub. They are a great option for both residential and commercial applications.

What is Acrylic tub?

An acrylic tub is a type of bathtub made from vacuum-formed acrylic sheets, which are then reinforced with fiberglass layers to increase durability. Acrylic tubs are known for their high gloss finish, which makes them look sleek and modern. They are also very easy to clean and maintain, as they are not porous and do not scratch easily. Acrylic tubs are also lightweight, making them easy to install.

I have seen acrylic tubs used in many homes and businesses. They are a popular choice for bathrooms because of their many benefits. Acrylic tubs are a great choice for people who want a durable, easy-to-clean, and stylish bathtub.

Americast vs Acrylic:

Americast, a durable composite, features a porcelain enamel-metal core for strength and heat retention. Acrylic, lighter and more affordable, requires regular maintenance. Consider Americast for durability and heat, and acrylic for a budget-friendly option with lighter weight.

Durability

Americast is known for its exceptional durability, thanks to its composite construction that blends cast iron with fiberglass. This combination makes Americast bathtubs incredibly resistant to dents, cracks, and chips, ensuring they can withstand the wear and tear of everyday use. On the other hand, acrylic bathtubs are also durable, but they may be more susceptible to scratches and scuffs.

Scratch Resistance

Americast bathtubs retain their shine and luster remarkably well, thanks to their hard, non-porous surface. They’re highly resistant to scratches, even from sharp objects like razors or metal toys. Acrylic bathtubs, while durable, are not as scratch-resistant as Americast. They can show scratches more easily, especially with abrasive cleaning methods.

Heat Resistance

Heat resistance is a crucial factor to consider, especially if you enjoy hot baths. Americast bathtubs excel in this area, as they can withstand high temperatures without warping or cracking. This makes them ideal for those who prefer hotter water temperatures. Acrylic bathtubs, while generally heat-resistant, may show signs of warping or discoloration if exposed to excessively hot water for extended periods.

Cleanability

Maintaining a clean and hygienic bathtub is essential for both aesthetics and health. Both Americast and acrylic bathtubs are relatively easy to clean, as their non-porous surfaces prevent dirt and grime from clinging to them. However, Americast bathtubs may require slightly more effort to remove stubborn stains, while acrylic bathtubs are generally easier to maintain their pristine appearance.

Cost

Americast is more expensive than acrylic. This is because it is a more durable and scratch-resistant material. However, Americast bathtubs may be worth the extra cost if you are looking for a bathtub that will last for many years.

What Are the Key Differences Between Americast and Acrylic Bathtubs?

When comparing Americast and acrylic bathtubs, the key differences revolve around durability and material composition. Americast tubs are made from a patented material that combines porcelain enamel with an alloy of steel and cast iron, providing remarkable strength. On the other hand, acrylic tubs are crafted from a lightweight and non-porous material, offering a smooth finish and easy maintenance. The difference between bushing and coupling lies in their structural purpose in plumbing systems, nothing to do with bathtub types.

My Recommendation: Americast vs Acrylic

After careful consideration of durability, scratch resistance, heat resistance, cleanability, and cost, I would recommend Americast for most people. It’s more durable, scratch-resistant, and heat-resistant than acrylic, so it will last longer and look better. It’s also easier to clean than acrylic, especially if you have hard water.

The only downside to Americast is that it’s more expensive than acrylic. However, I think the extra cost is worth it for a bathtub that will last for many years.
